About the Geek

As a Geek:

My name's David, and I'm a geek. I'm also a teacher. The more I think about it, I've been both for my whole life--31 years so far. Throughout those years, I was always very sheltered about my life as a geek. It wasn't until recently that I finally began to unveil my inner geek: comic books, video games, movies of all genres, books, role-playing games, board games, card games, poetry....the list seems endless! I'm certainly always finding something new to geek out about. You'll learn that; don't worry.

As a Teacher:

This portion of my introduction will be constantly under development; I'm a brand spankin' new educator! I'm one of those so-called "career changers." I've always wanted to be a teacher since I was in grade school. After spending about eight years in the entertainment industry, I decided it was time to make the switch. I had been an acting coach, an undergraduate teaching assistant, a director, a fight choreographer, a dance captain, a movement captain, and an acting teacher. Simply put, I loved teaching and being a mentor. Correction: I LOVE teaching and being a mentor. I just recently student taught in the spring, and I'm filling for a maternity leave this fall!

I'm particularly fond of the complex and intricate texts of Emily Dickinson and Edgar Allan Poe. One of my favorite Romantic Era poets is William Wordsworth. I find dramatic texts absolutely amazing, and I'm always looking for new authors (or obscure pieces from known ones) to devour!

Blog & Comment Rules:
  1. Be Respectful. I will not tolerate name-calling or deliberately demeaning rhetoric.
  2. Be Open-minded. While education is a somewhat controversial industry right now, I won't let my blog or comment areas to become ideological shouting matches. This goes back to Rule #1.
  3. Be Yourself. Share your experiences, your thoughts, and your ideas. I'll do it if you do it, too!
